Sissy's Story
Sissy was given to us by her owner.  They had purchased two ducklings at a local store and one had passed away.  They found it was difficult to care for one duck who was bonded with humans and wanted to be with them all the time.

This is a common reason that ducks, chickens and geese are turned in to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch.  People buy them on impulse because they are so cute, but then they tire of the animals or don’t realize the amount of care they need.  These fowl are domestic and cannot live in the wild; dumping them near a city or subdivision pond is not a safe place for them. They can’t fly south for the winter and food can be hard to find.  Bread that well meaning citizens feed them is not nutritious and can be harmful.  Neighborhood dogs, coyotes and teenagers who tease or torture them are also significant risks to defenseless domestic fowl.
