Scott

Scott's Story
Scott was one of the 120 horses impounded by the Greene County Sheriff’s Department in the largest horse rescue in Missouri’s history. These horses had been neglected for some time and had to fight for what little food and water there was available on the property. After an involved court process, Longmeadow Rescue Ranch finally received custody of Scott in August 2005.

Scott's Health
When he first came to Longmeadow, Scott had a variety of medical issues. First, staffers noticed that he was very thin and had lice crawling all over him. He also had rain rot and needed medical care for the numerous cuts and scrapes he had on his legs and body. He had an abscess in his left fore hoof and seedy toe in both front feet, conditions that stemmed from not having proper hoof care over a long period of time. His left knee, left hock and right rear leg had some old injuries and he still has a little arthritis in them. Lastly, he had a cloudy left eye from an old injury and has some permanent retina damage to both eyes from recurrent bouts of uveitis that was not treated properly. Today, Scott is doing much better. His weight is where it should be, his hair coat is a deep chestnut color and his hooves are getting better with metal shoes that help support new growth. He is on an arthritis supplement and gets regular exercise to help keep him flexible. Scott is fed a good quality alfalfa/grass hay mix and a pelleted grain with his supplements. He is de-wormed for external and internal parasites every two months and receives yearly vaccinations.

Scott's Personality
Scott is a quiet guy, but he loves attention. After arriving at Longmeadow, staffers were
pleasantly surprised to discover that he has been trained for riding. He looks great under an English saddle and has a long stride length that makes him look like he is floating along the ground. Scott made his first public appearance at the St. Louis National Charity Horse Show in 2006 as the Flag Bearer for the opening ceremonies. Everyone fell in love with him and his sweet nature!
