Rowdi's Story
Rowdi has a long history with Longmeadow Rescue Ranch. His owners purchased him from a miniature horse breeder when he was just 3 years old. About the same time, they also adopted a pony from Longmeadow to be a buddy for Rowdi. Unfortunately, the adopters had a serious accident and could no longer care for the two horses. They returned the pony and asked if Rowdi could come too. Because Rowdi and the pony did not get along well, Longmeadow found separate new homes for them. Rowdi became a companion to an older mare for several years, but when his mare partner suddenly died, he was once again returned to Longmeadow. This time, staffers decided that he had enough moving around and so Rowdi became a buddy to Amigo, another miniature horse, and an official Longmeadow Rescue Ranch mascot.

Rowdi's Health
Rowdi’s previous owners always took good care of him, although he came to Longmeadow a little overweight. He is what Longmeadow staffers call an “Easy Keeper” -- it doesn’t take much food to make him gain weight. Because of this, he foundered, which means he
developed hoof problems that made it hard for him to walk. To fix this problem, Rowdi was put on a strict diet of grass hay. He also had very long hooves so the farrier trimmed them monthly until they were back to normal. Now Rowdi is regularly de-wormed, has his hooves trimmed every two months and is vaccinated annually against a variety of horse diseases.

Rowdi's Personality
Rowdi and his buddy Amigo like to romp around the dry lot together when they are turned out for exercise. They both like people and enjoy going to events as official Longmeadow mascots. Rowdi in particular likes getting lots of attention and can become impatient if he feels ignored. He’s such a sweet guy and quite the favorite around the Ranch!
