Quackers' Story
Quackers was dropped off as a stray at the Humane Society of Missouri St. Louis City location and transported to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch, the only rescue facility in the St. Louis area that cares for horses and farm animals. Following policy, she was held at the Ranch as a stray for five days to give her owners the chance to claim her, but no one did. Afterward, she continued to live at the Ranch and quickly became a staff favorite. Before long, her sweet nature earned her a permanent place as an official mascot.

Quackers' Health
When Quackers first came to Longmeadow, she had a sore foot condition called Bumble Foot. Bumble Foot occurs when a duck gets a cut on its foot and an infection sets in, developing into a big bunion-like sore. Quackers’ treatment involved soaking the foot daily in Epsom saltwater, drying it well, putting on ichthamal ointment to help draw out the infection and then wrapping the foot. Have you ever tried to wrap a duck’s foot? They do look very funny. Happily, the treatment worked and now Quackers is as good as new! All the fowl at Longmeadow (including Quackers) are given albon water for the first week they are there to treat them for coccidian, an amoeba-like parasite. Once the week as past, they are fed laying hen crumbles and have access to plenty of water. They are also de-wormed for internal parasites yearly.

Quackers' Personality
Quackers is a quiet, laid-back duck with black iridescent feathers and a white spot on her chest. She is best friends with Binks the Goose, another Longmeadow mascot, and they are frequently seen hanging around together in the nearest mud puddle. They also like to check areas where the other animals eat just in case some morsels of food have been left behind. Needless to say, Quackers and Gucci never go to bed hungry!
