Petey's Story
Petey was just a few months old when he came to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in September of 2008. The family found out they were not allowed to keep pigs where they lived. It’s important to research the regulations in your area before acquiring any animal.
Petey's Health
Petey was healthy when he came to the Ranch. He was neutered and a microchip was inserted behind his left ear for identification purposes. He also was vaccinated against tetanus and a variety of swine diseases. Petey is de-wormed for parasites twice a year and gets his swine vaccinations yearly. When he gets a little older, his toenails will be trimmed. Petey lives in the Playhouse Barn with other potbellied pigs and chickens, ducks and geese. Since pigs cannot sweat, Petey uses a wading pool in the summer.
Petey's Personality
Petey is very friendly and well-mannered. He is learning to walk on a harness and leash. He likes to visit everyone at the Learning Center and will gently lean into people’s legs asking to be scratched. If you are too busy, he gives a snort and politely walks away. When he gets your attention, he flops over for a belly rub, laying right across your feet.
