Longmeadow Rescue Ranch Barn Buddy
Paris's Story Paris came to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in August of 2006. She was rescued with 41 other chickens and one calf from an egg farm. There were more than 10,000 birds at this facility. It was overcrowded, lacked nutritious food and clean water and had a number of dead chickens lying where live birds were living.
Paris's Health Paris had few feathers and was very naked. Her breed is supposed to have lots of feathers. She was very thin, had sores on her body and had bumble foot (a sore on the pad at the bottom of her foot) on both feet. Her toes were very stiff and the veterinarian felt she had some osteoarthritis in them. We started her on chick starter to help her gain weight. She was kept in a kennel so that she could have access to all the food and water she wanted. She was de-wormed, treated for coccidia and treated with antibiotics. She has now fully recovered, has feathers on her body and the bumble foot has healed.
Paris is fed laying crumbles and has access to grit to help her digest her food. She is de-wormed twice a year to take care of internal and external parasites. She has access to an outdoor exercise pen during the day and has an indoor area during the night.
Paris's Personality Paris is easy to catch and pick up and doesn't mind being petted. She is very fluffy and pretty. She lives with Naomi, a Transylvanian Naked Necked, or commonly called a Turken, hen.
