Deck the Howls!

Kids Holiday Reading Event

kids reading.jpg

Saturday, December 12, children ages 6-12 are invited to "Deck the Howls" for shelter animals at the Humane Society of Missouri!

From 10 am - noon, kids can read holiday stories to shelter pets, make a greeting card for their kennel, and enjoy hot cocoa and cookies. Books will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite holiday story!

This is a free event, but space is limited.

About the Humane Society of Missouri Reading Program

This program was designed to help our shelter dogs become more adoptable. Participants sit outside of the dog's kennel and read to them, so there is no direct contact in this opportunity.

Reading helps shy dogs learn to relax around people and teaches high energy dogs that calm behavior is desirable. When children tell stories to the dogs, it also helps them develop their own reading skills.
